A.L.F.A.

Alfa Romeo is an automobile manufacturer and entrepreneur in the grand Italian tradition of the auto industry. The company was founded by Ugo Stella in the nascent years of the 20th century and was a relative newcomer to the automotive manufacturing business. In the early days the company was an amalgamation of smaller companies, namely Darracq, Fiat, and Lamborghini. It wasn’t until the advent of World War I that a serious attempt was made to manufacture cars on a large scale.

Several interesting cars were produced in the early years, but by the mid 1920s the venerable Italian marque had run out of steam. It wasn’t until the ensuing Great War that Nicola Romeo stepped up to the plate and changed the company’s fortunes. Having invested in a locomotive and railway carriage plant, he threw his hat in the ring and the resulting car company spawned the present day Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group.
